Hirono Mio - Fruits of the Moon (1988)

Originally I only wanted to post my own rips but someone requested this and it's too good to not listen to. This is Hirono Mio's debut-solo EP. The second track is one of my all-time favourite songs.
I was actually going to buy her first LP, IIRC it's called Chloe, from Yahoo Auctions but completely forgot about it and bought some other stuff instead. Maybe next time!

  1. This is just great. Thanks for posting! I can't find any info about a "Chloe" album, but apparently this EP was reissued a couple years later with 4 more tracks: http://www.discogs.com/%E7%BE%8E%E5%B0%BE%E6%B4%8B%E4%B9%83-Fruits-Of-The-Moon/release/5398161

    1. This is Chloe:

I had a bit of birthday money so I went ahead and bought it; technically not yet since I still need to pay for it, but I soon will. Don't worry about sending over those Ichiko hashimoto albums, I think I have most of the ones you listed. I looked up that Amazon metadata thing and you are right. However, I also read that it can be easily removed, so you might want to look that up; even if you end up not uploading those Mio Fou albums it might come in useful for you in the future.

I was pleasantly surprised by that soundtrack you posted. That's something else I need to get a hold of. The first track sounded more like post-punk than jazz fusion to me. I found a copy of the LP here: http://coconutsdisk.com/webstore/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=26937
I can't afford it right now, but maybe one day. I think I also found a copy of the film itself on Amazon.co.jp. I don't know if you speak Japanese or not but that may interest you. I'd love it if you would upload Beat Jazz for me. What does it sound like? The only stuff of Atsuo's I've listened to have been jazz fusion/new wave and the name helps imply it'll be along those lines but for all I know I could be completely wrong.

  2. Heh, I also bought Chloe over the weekend (and that one already arrived -- which seems amazingly fast for shipping to the U.S. from Japan), and the long version of Fruits of the Moon, because that's how goes. (^_^) "Beat Jazz" is sort of slightly frantic soul-jazz-rock, and might be too rock-y to be entirely to your taste. Some of it reminds me of the Style Council. But give it a listen and see what you think: http://www.filefactory.com/file/709xnqast0mt/Beat%20Jazz.zip

    1. Already? Where did you buy Chloe from? I'm using a middleman service and I don't think it has even arrived at their warehouse yet. Is that the CD version of Fruits of the Moon? I was going to buy the 12" for something like 300yen but my shitty internet stopped that and someone else bought it before I could. I was also going to buy that soundtrack you sent me last week but, again, my internet meant someone else did; I basically couldn't use the internet at all for Sunday and Monday and it's still a nightmare to use, and there are still records I want to buy!
Thanks for the download link, I'll –try– to download it. I've literally nothing against rock and abrasive music; most of the stuff I listen to is derivative of punk anyway. I just don't like how some of Ichiko's albums would have a rock 'n' roll song slapped in the middle of them.

    2. Amazon.co.jp had a used copy that had an international shipping option (unusual for them), and yeah, it's the CD version of Fruits of the Moon -- I don't have a vinyl player. If I did have one, I might have already bitten the bullet and shelled out for that Colored Music soundtrack LP. I've seen it on Yahoo Auctions a couple times now and been tempted. It *might* be available here but I can't read this to tell whether it's an active listing or not: http://aucview.aucfan.com/yahoo/u63576073/

(I'm happy to send a rip of the expanded Fruits of the Moon when it arrives, of course.)

    1. Hi Francis, was listening to the 4 Track EP today after quite a while and checked for the cd online. To my amazement I figured the CD has 8 Tracks as you already discussed here. Unfortunatly the filefactory link is not working anymore. You still have this little gem stored somewhere and would consider reuploading it? I'll trade it in for something, if you want to (where I believe it could fit your taste).

      Thanks for the great work!

    2. Just saw your request, so hopefully you'll be notified about this reply; here's a new link: https://www.mediafire.com/?5jrm466kc2sdye9

Also perhaps of interest, I just uncovered a copy of Ichiko Hashimoto's cassette-only release, "Flavoury Music" (which also features Atsuo Fujimoto of Colored Music). That's here: https://www.mediafire.com/?lkgiitxs6g217kh

    3. Francis, this is awesome! Thank you so much - I really wasn't expecting that. And still not got my hands on the CD version. So this really comes in handy. Thank you so much.

Well: As a recommendation I'll have this one for you (unfortunatly link only right now) ----- https://sunset-rollercoaster.bandcamp.com/

Give it a listen if you're interested. Great contemporary taiwanese band - love them.

    4. Thanks, I'll give it a try! The thing that's currently at the top of my want list is Midori Takada's "Tree of Life" ... don't suppose I'd be lucky enough to find out that you have a copy?

    5. Unfortunatly I'll have to let you down on that one. I only own the "Lunar Cruise" with Masahiko Satoh, but I guess this is widely accessible already? If I by any accident I get my hands on "Tree of Life" I'll let you know.

You're aware of Satoshi Ashikawas "Still Way"? I just got completely hooked on that one too - you'll probably know it already.

  4. Thanks Francis! My internet was fixed a few days ago and I've finally gotten around to listening to the two albums. The auction you posted has already ended, it did so in March. I had already listened to one of the tracks in the Atsuo album you sent me, the instrumental version of Colored Music, it was in a re-issue for Colored Music's debut. You probably already have that one, don't you? Thanks also for the Fruits of the Moon extra tracks. They sound more like the songs on Chloé and Mio Fou than Fruits of the Moon but I still very much enjoy them. How do you find Chloé? My copy arrived the other day and I've listened to it a few times since. I like it a lot but not as much as FotM.

    1. My copy of Colored Music is an LP rip, so I hadn't heard the extra track but was pretty sure it was the same one as on the Atsuo Fujimoto album. I like "Chloe" a lot as well, and couldn't yet say which of the two I prefer -- basically all the Hirono Mio-related albums are my favorite Japanese music discoveries in a while, so thanks very much for recommending them all! With so much unheard music to sift through, it can be hard to find the gems without some assistance.
